Day 1    Wellington – Taupo  - 380 kms
Head north out of the capital city, through Johnsonville to the Kapiti Coast and then over the Manawatu Plain to Palmerston North, a university city. The journey to Taupo is through the volcanic plateau with excellent views of Mt Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe and Tongariro.  The rest of the day is free in Taupo – enquire about some of the world famous fishing on Lake Taupo or the nearby rivers, a cruise on New Zealand's largest lake,  jetboating, visit Huka Falls or take one of the many alpine walks in the region.

Day 2    Taupo – Rotorua  -  80 kms
Head north to Wairakei, the centre of hydro electric power production for New Zealand.  Perhaps enjoy a round of golf at the world renowned Wairakei Golf Resort before continuing your journey to Rotorua. This evening, a representative from Tamaki Tours will transfer you to a Maori Village for an evening of Maori song and dance followed by the traditional hangi.

Day 3  Free Day in Rotorua
We have left today free for you to enjoy the sights of Rotorua. Contact the Visitor Information Centre for a wide range of attractions and activities to entertain you. We highly recommend a visit to the Waitomo Caves, the Agridome or Rainbow Springs and perhaps tonight try a relaxing swim in the Polynesian Spa.

Day 4   Rotorua – Napier  - 230 kms
Depart Rotorua for Napier travelling via Taupo before heading east over the Volcanic Plateau to Napier. Time is available this afternoon to stroll along the city esplanade for views of the art deco buildings that dominate the city.

Day 5  Napier – Wellington  - 320 kms
This morning we suggest a visit to one of the popular wineries – the Hawkes Bay is recognised as one of our major wine producing regions in New Zealand. In the afternoon travel south-west through the spectacular Manawatu Gorge to Palmerston North and then on down the Kapiti Coast to Wellington.
